Future Film and Theater Festival Mobile App Case Study

A 10-week long project involved creating a visual system for a 3-day AI & Future Technology themed film and theater festival called “Future Film and Theater Festival” at the University of Washington Seattle campus. This case study showcases the process and communication goal from the beginning of initial research to the last process of mobile interface design.

This application is created for customers who would like to join the Future Film and Festival at University of Washington mainly focus on the social feature to connect the participants with other people who are going to the same events.

Persona

Main Focused Feature on the Application

The 'Connect with Friends' feature allows users to find others with similar interests, making it easier to join events together and solve the challenge of finding someone to attend with.

Kristi represents not just a film lover but also a transfer student new to the UW campus. Her persona is important to the film festival because it challenges me to create a more inclusive experience for newcomers looking to connect. By prioritizing accessibility, my festival can become a welcoming space where every film enthusiast, regardless of their familiarity with campus, can engage, build connections, and feel a sense of belonging.

Problem and Solution:

Working on this project I faced challenge in making the app intuitive and easy to navigate.

Based on feedback from user testing, users found the search functionality unclear and felt the 'discover new friends' feature lacked sufficient filtering options for relevant matches. To address this, I clarified the search bar with a more intuitive label and icon. I also introduced additional filters, allowing users to refine their search by shared interests, age, and event dates. Additionally, I updated the navigation bar color to make it more visually appealing and user-friendly.

A key take away from this project…

Small changes can make a big difference. As I work and iterate on this project, I look back at my first draft and see many improvements, from color choices and fonts to filter options. Through user testing and iteration, my product has become more intuitive and easier to navigate.
